Ian Quintana Turns 70!

A very special occasion for the club last week , as our first ever 70 year old turned out in our famous hoops. I leave the words to our interim chairman Stuart Murray.......

Ian John Michael Quintana, born on Sunday 12th September 1954 became our 1st ever active septuagenarian (player aged 70 years old), in a 4-0 victory over LK Cito, on Tuesday 24th September 2024. ...Not only making history with his appearance, he had the bloody cheek to score, so is also our oldest ever goal scorer ! Deserves a round of applause.

Celebrating this amazing feat, and the man himself of course, I thought, how would Ian do a write up himself, being the author of so many fantastic and memorable match reports over the years ... Well here we go and sorry mate ?.
Ian Quintana ...This Is Your Life ...well, at least a bit of it ?

MAGICAL LEFT FOOT, SHAME ABOUT THE OTHER 98% OF THE BODY.
Born in Liverpool, England, of Scottish and Basque heritage, Ian is a staunch Evertonian. Life was not a colourful start - everything was in black and white waaaaay back then ?.
In his youth, he boxed ? and still has a sweet left hook. Before coming to DK, he lived in Spain, Ireland and Australia.
I am not too sure how long he's been in Denmark, but long enough to get married to Louise, and produce 2 daughters. He worked in the airport for many years, delivering the newspapers. Being an old git now, he's officially retired, but still does some shifts in the Gravens Rand.

Even though he's 70, he's actually only played for Celtic since he was 50, yep he's also now in the 20 years club. Baller recruited him from Osbournes back in 2004 into our Veterans team.

Ian is loved, well respected, slagged off and probably feared by most people who meet or know him. He is an incredibly friendly, jovial and welcoming person unless he's already moved on to the gin and tonics. Then he tends to, even more than usual, call a spade a spade, or a prick a prick....if you know what I mean....

He has a brilliant sense of humour, loves a laugh, mainly at other peoples expense, though he's not scared to slag himself off as well, in all fairness. However, a dangerous combination of a sharp wit, an eye for detail and a scathing tongue, makes him the perfect author of the Super Masters match reports, which are hilarious, as well as informative and pretty well balanced once you take the knife out of your back ?. He is also the co-manager of The Super Masters together with Ray this year, and boys.... apart from the football, you're doing a great job ♥️.

A canny football player, who you can still see "has a footballing brain" and still a fair bit of ability too. Reads the game well, still moves into good spaces on the pitch, just can't move out of them again, but in all fairness, he still puts in a shift and yes folks , that does include a fair bit of running. Now when I say running, well you all know what I mean ?.
Now then ....Back to that magical left foot ... Ian is still able to ping a beautiful pass over a fair distance and place it as if he had put it there with his hands. Great crosser of the ball, with said leg and still gets some decent shots off and scores goals when parked up front as the holding striker ?. He's quite possibly still the best passer of the ball in his team, although I am certain others might want to debate this. For all the good things he can do with his left foot though, ...that right peg,.. oh my ribs ...??. Never mind kicking the ball with his right leg, he's the only person I have ever seen who is so one footed when running, it just looks wrong ?.

However, all joking to one side, we are all here to celebrate you, and this monumental achievement.
Ian, from every Copenhagen Celtic player and member, past and present. Thanks for being the player, person and friend that you are. Someone who upholds and shares the very essence and values that make this club, the great community that it is, and has been for more than 40 years.
It's an amazing and fantastic achievement to still be an active player at 70 years of age. Enjoy it, behold it and cherish it, there's many that couldn't or didn't make it this far.
Hope you are able, and continue to play and entertain us all for many more years to come.

Congratulations to our very 1st - 70 year old active football player and goal scorer : Ian Quintana ???‍???⚽?.
